21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Award

The Bethlehem Area School District has been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Cohort 6 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This three-year funding will provide afterschool programming at four elementary schools: Donegan, Fountain Hill, Freemansburg, and Marvine. Bethlehem Area School District will receive $500,000 per year to be used for academic interventions, enrichment opportunities, and recreation activities outside of the regular school day. The grant participants must provide academic enrichment activities to students attending high-poverty schools to help them meet state and local standards in core content areas, such as reading, math and science.

The 21st CCLC program is designed to help students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects. The goal of the Bethlehem Area School District out-of-school-time programming will be to further promote student success as defined by the district-wide "Roadmap to Educational Excellence".

Bethlehem Area School District is grateful to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the opportunity to enrich the educational program available to the students in these four elementary schools. Through Cohort 6 afterschool funding, students will engage in interesting, well-planned, supervised activities and parents will value as contributing to the academic, social, and personal growth of their children.
