40th Anniversary of Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County

United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley has invested in Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County Meal Delivery program for many years.

April 13, 2011 hundreds of volunteers gathered at America on Wheels to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County!  Volunteers were recognized for their commitment and service to the agency.  Eight volunteers were honored (photo right).  These eight individuals, who continue to deliver today, began delivering 40 years ago!  One woman named Betty Duffy, in her 80s, has delivered for Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County for the past 40 years AND delivers for Meals on Wheels of Northampton County as well!  As Ellen Kern said, “This is the ruby anniversary for Meals on Wheels, so I wore my ruby slippers in honor of the occasion.  And I think it is very appropriate because Dorothy said, ‘There is no place like home’.  Because of you volunteers, hundreds of Lehigh Valley seniors are able to stay in their homes and repeat that saying – there is no place like home!”
