Calling All Volunteers: New Elementary Before-School Program In The Works

Allentown School District announced the creation of its new before-school program, “Start Your Day Right,” for its 15 elementary schools planned for fall 2011. The program is part of ASD’s College and Career Access Network. The program is designed to improve student academic achievement, improve student health and connect the community to Allentown students while offering parents and guardians a safe haven for their children before school.

The program will run in each elementary school from 7:30-8:40 a.m., Monday-Friday, September-June.  The program consists of three daily rotations at each school:

• Conversation with the Community Over Breakfast
• Fitness Activities
• Academic Support & Enrichment

In order to ensure success of the program, ASD is working with the City of Allentown and other  significant partners to recruit site managers, support staff and 300 volunteers for all the schools and gain all proper credentialing before the start of the school year on September 6, 2011.
