Roosevelt Elementary School - 210 W Susquehanna St. Allentown

Book Blast, a once-a-month program hosted by Roosevelt Elementary School in Allentown, creates an environment that encourages children to grow their reading skills. It also bridges the language barrier gap that prevents many parents from reading aloud in English to their children.

As a volunteer, you work alongside a school teacher and other volunteers to create a fun learning experience—and a chance for underprivileged parents and guardians to spend quality time with their children. You can also bring along your own children.
  • Volunteer for the 19 April Book Blast
  • Volunteer for the 17 May Book Blast (Rita’s Ice Nite)
The program begins at 6:00 p.m. The reading comprehension strategy is introduced, and the featured book is read aloud. Each child then selects a book to read and practices the newly introduced strategy. The program finishes up with a project or activity closely tied to the featured story. Clean-up goes very quickly; the event is complete by 7:15 p.m.

If you are interested in volunteering please contact Regina Nickson from United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley at reginan@unitedwayglv.org or 610.807.5719
