Community Impact

Advancing the common good is less about helping one person at a time and more about changing systems to help all of us. We are all connected and interdependent. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, when people are healthy.

United Way’s goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of these problems and it takes everyone in the community working together to create brighter futures for each generation to come.

Working together on behalf of our least advantaged neighbors may be our greatest challenge in the coming years. Thinking, planning, and acting cooperatively as a community enables us to develop a vision for the Lehigh Valley that unites us and strengthens us.

We invite you to browse the menu on the left to learn more about United Way's four community goals, and use the Education, Income and Health links below to find out more information on how United Way's work is focused on the building blocks for a good life.

Community Overview

  • The Lehigh Valley is many communities—urban, suburban, and rural—in one.
  • We are 67 townships and 17 school districts.
  • We share a common geography that includes two major rivers, a mountain range, rolling hills, small towns, and three urban areas that are unrivaled in their importance to American history.
  • For up-to-date statistics on community indicators and trends in the economy, education, and public health, we suggest that you visit the website of the Lehigh Valley Research Consortium at www.lehighvalleyresearch.org.
  • The Lehigh Valley is home to some of the nation’s most treasured arts organizations, science museums, colleges, universities, and businesses. Crayola® Crayons, Dixie Cups®, and Peeps® were all born here.
