Lehigh Valley Residents Receive Support for Emergencies and Basic Needs

Basic Needs

Every day, individuals and families struggle to meet their basic needs of food, shelter and clothing.  A single crisis or emergency situation for anyone can create turmoil and threaten their ability to meet those basic needs.

Our Plan

United Way is committed to ensuring that the basic needs of people in crisis are met in the Lehigh Valley. The programs and strategies of focus for the next three years include:

  • Food, clothing and shelter programs
  • Crises and Emergency supports
  • Transitional supports – programs helping transition a person/family out of shelters into an apartment or home ownership are vital to long-term stability.
  • Community-wide information and referral systems – it is essential that community members know how to access available services and supports in way that is streamlined, reduces frustration, and increases customer satisfaction.

Our Results

During 2011-14, United Way will invest $810,000 annually in 14 programs to help people t meet basic needs.
