Our Plan

Focus on key transitions in a child's life. Build a "Birth to Graduation Pathway" between funded programs and community partnerships. United Way focuses on quality early learning, school readiness, math and science proficiency, and on-time High School graduation.

Our Results

During 2011-14, United Way will invest $3,871,056 (74%) of all community dollars in the following 49 programs (9 new), two Community Building Partnerships, and two initiatives.

Education Program Investments

Community-Building Partnerships

Allentown Promise Neighborhood - a nine-square-block area of center city Allentown, with projected borders of 7th, 10th, Liberty, and Turner Streets, the Allentown Promise Neighborhood’s mission is to ensure that all children (birth to 18) residing in this neighborhood succeed academically and graduate.

COMPASS Community Schools - a multi-district, multi-partner initiative focused on increasing the number of
opportunities and the capacity of the community to help kids succeed in school.  COMPASS currently works with 12 schools in 4 districts (Allentown, Bethlehem, and Bangor), and more than a dozen community organizations and service providers to increase opportunities for children and families.

Other United Way led Opportunities

LEARN - Local Education and Resource Network (LEARN) is a state of PA initiative to expand early childhood education and Kindergarten Registration awareness. United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley coordinates LEARN efforts for Lehigh and Northampton Counties
