Priority Result: Lehigh Valley Residents Receive Support for Emergencies and Basic Needs

Every day, individuals and families struggle to meet their basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing.  A single crisis or emergency situation for anyone can create turmoil and threaten their ability to meet those basic needs.

United Way is committed to making sure that our community has “safety nets” to ensure that the basic needs of people in crisis are met. The programs and strategies of focus for the next three years include:
  • Food, clothing, and shelter programs
  • Crises and Emergency supports
  • Transitional Supports – programs helping transition a person/family out of shelters into an apartment or home ownership are vital to long-term stability.
  • Community-wide information and referral systems – it is essential that community members know how to access available services and supports in way that is streamlined, reduces frustration, and increases customer satisfaction.
Customer data will be tracked and shared to support advocacy efforts related to “root cause” issues and/or level of need throughout the Valley.  Performance Measures include:
  • Customer experience timely response to needs/requests
  • Customer experience high quality services or support
  • Customer express satisfaction with programs/services/support
  • The general public is aware of the program and how to access support
During 2011-14, United Way will invest $810,000 annually in 14 programs (3 new) to help people to meet basic needs.
