United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley is offering a scholarship opportunity to a young woman planning to pursue post-secondary study in an area of Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Math or Finance (often referred to as S.T.E.M. education). The funding for this scholarship is generously provided by Fusun Bubernack, a Tocqueville Society member and President of ET&T.
The 2018 Hasan Fehmi & Sabahat Erel Legacy S.T.E.M. Scholarship will provide $4,000 during the 2018-19 academic year. Qualified applicants include female high school seniors planning to pursue a S.T.E.M. major. The recipient will be a young woman with demonstrated financial need as well as a superior academic record and established history of volunteerism and community service. This scholarship aligns with United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley's goal of providing increased educational opportunities. Selection Procedure Recipient(s) shall be selected by a committee with representatives from United Way and past award recipients, in collaboration with Fusun Bubernack. All applications will be reviewed by the committee and finalists will be interviewed. The final award recipient(s) may be asked to attend a community event in order to receive the award in person. Amount of Award The scholarship amount will be $4,000 and will be awarded one time, in the summer of 2018. The purpose of the award is to cover tuition for the 2018–19 academic year.
