I nominate Meals On Wheels of Northampton County for the Valentine's Day Challenge. As a volunteer deliverer of meals I feel I'm benefiting even more than our clients from the service. The grateful smiles make it a labor of love, and remind me of how the MOW allowed my mother to age in place.
Kudos to the staff and volunteers of MOW!

Love, love, LOVE Habitat for Humanity Lehigh Valley! Being a part of a volunteer building community AND a company that supports HfHLV financially directly through Thrivent Builds has opened my eyes to the many wonderful ways we can serve the Lord, our communities, and each other through good works. It is an emotional and physical reward supporting HfHLV, but most rewarding is the knowledge that another family has a place to call home, children who have stability, and a neighborhood that has a repaired or new home to honor it!

I support Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley because they impact our Lehigh Valley communities by empowering low income families to obtain safe, affordable, stable housing. They have worked with veterans, families who have come to the US as refugees and long time Lehigh Valley residents. Habitat families become partners in their community and with Habitat LV by participating in construction of their own home. Habitat has touched communities through new construction, rehabilitating old houses and making exterior home improvements. They have been doing great things in our community since 1989 and are going strong!

Habitat for Humanity - Lehigh Valley is my favorite Lehigh Valley nonprofit because they work so hard with local families in need. They provide help in a variety of different ways and their efforts change the lives of many deserving people. They also are very involved with many campus chapters which allows many young adults to get involved and also helps unify the Lehigh Valley.

I'm voting for Communities in Schools of the Lehigh Valley. I worked there on a temporary assignment and after spending just three months there, I learned a lot about their organization. They have incredibly caring staff that make a profound difference in the lives of students served. I have followed the newspaper articles and Facebook page since then. They opened a re-engagement center to reach out to those that stopped attending school and they work to prevent students from dropping out to begin with.

My <3 and support goes out to The Center For Humanistic Change. The HOPE program and the other community programs they offer are making a big difference in the Lehigh Valley, one person/one family/one school at a time. I was first introduced to the great work they do several years ago when I was a weekly volunteer. Since then, I have been more involved as a proud member of the Board of Directors. I believe the staff lives their mission and it comes out in their experience with the many lives they touch.

Having started volunteering for Habitat for Humanity soon after I retired, I saw the joy and satisfaction of the recipients of Habitat houses. It was fun and true camaraderie working with the other volunteers building these houses and viewing the faces of the new home owners at dedications. I have since spent more time with the affiliate the ReStore but always enjoy going to the builds.I personally haven't done any of the international builds but have witnessed the personal satisfaction of those that have. May Habitat continue to offer affordable Housing to those of the Lehigh Valley and beyond.

I am proud to be part of Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley and be able to help hard-working families in the Lehigh Valley secure a decent place to live at an affordable price. It has been amazing getting to know our partner families and their children and to learn about their lives. It has been great to work alongside them as they volunteer hours on their home or the home of another Habitat family. Habitat also invests in the neighborhoods in which we work with neighborhood revitalization and our Brush with Kindness Programs. We have many committees, such as our Women Build Committee, that help educate and empower women. We help our volunteers out on the job site gain invaluable skills at home maintenance and repair by doing things such as painting, siding, windows, etc. Whether you volunteer with Habitat, are on one of our committees, or become a homeowner, you become part of the Habitat family!
Our mission is to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.....and we believe our homeowners achieve strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

I love to support Community Bike Works (CBW) in Allentown because of the way it brings together a diverse group of kids, staff, and volunteers and makes a tangible impact in the lives of kids in our community. Kids commit to a 12 week program where they put in two hours of work each week toward earning a bike of their choice. Throughout the program kids gain confidence by working with their hands and learning valuable skills, such as changing out a punctured bike tube. Additionally, they learn that CBW is a safe place to come after school, they build relationships with other kids and staff, and learn from the mentor volunteers.
As a volunteer, I'm very grateful for the way that the program has allowed me to interact with kids, and to grow as a mentor and instructor. It has made me a more active community member and raised my interest in the local school districts. CBW is doing the important work of community building in our neighborhood, starting with our children.

Lehigh County Special Olympics is a favorite non-profit organization of mine. All you have to do is see all the athletes participating (over 700) at the Lehigh County Special Olympics' Track and Field County Event (usually held during the month of May at Whitehall High School), and you'll know why I love volunteering for this organization. In addition to track and field, there are year-around programs offered at no cost to the athletes: alpine skiing, basketball, bocce, bowling, golf, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming, and volleyball. There are no paid staff or coaches, so all of the funds donated and raised go directly to benefit the athletes. Many of the athletes have life-long friendships as a result of their participation in Lehigh County Special Olympics. I could go on talking for hours about how wonderful it is to volunteer for this non-profit organization!

There are many amazing non-profit organizations in the Lehigh Valley that I support. My favorite would be the Hamilton District Main Street Program, under the Chamber Foundation. This organization is volunteer-driven and involves building a Main Street framework that is well represented by all in the community who have a vested interest in revitalizing the downtown area. The Hamilton District brings the community to life and is the cultural heart of the Lehigh Valley.

My favorite Lehigh Valley charity is Community Bike Works. I value CBW because it works directly with the youth of our neighborhoods. The committed and caring mentors work to ensure that each child benefits from incorporating recreation into their lives and has the support necessary to develop positive interpersonal skills and relationships. All that, in return, helps foster good citizenship and eventually develops a healthier more robust community.

My favorite non-profit organization that I support by volunteering for several programs, by donating my resources and by serving on their Board is Community Bike Works (CBW). In my association with CBW for 4 plus years, I have seen many young folks being better community members because of the positive support they receive from the staff and volunteer mentors. In addition many students have received bikes, that they help build (or rebuild), and take that bike home after 24 hours in the program. CBW provides a helmet and safe riding instructions to each student along with a bike lock to protect their new investment. CBW is changing young lives for the betterment of their community.

The Bright Hope Center is definitely a source of light in our community. Not only do these centers provide free services to mothers in need of support during their pregnancies, but they provide preventative education, counseling and support throughout pregnancy and even after delivery. The locations throughout the valley are always offering testing to help new moms feel at ease with their unborn child's development and their volunteers and staff members go above and beyond to help women and young couples understand their options s they bring new life to the world. Additionally they have many outreach programs for teens and young adults as well as relationship counseling and parenting classes. Because of these centers, many children have a chance at a life which they might not have known without this bright hope.

The big brothers and big sisters help their little brothers and little sisters not only by encouraging them to keep up with their academics and get good grades, but also by giving them someone to talk to after a hard day, and encouraging them to branch out in their social lives in a positive way. I have so many charities that I am fond of. Any no-kill shelter deserves the donation from us to give help & comfort. Most of them are based on donations, and I feel our government needs to change the laws. First I feel like the Animals need a Voice!!! They need to be cared for by special hands that have a heart. We cannot accept or condone poor behavior towards harmless animals. They want nothing in return, but to be loved by their person. It is tragic to see the neglect & abuse portrayed by people that have no feelings of guilt thoughout the process of distruction of one of God's creatures. We need to ask ourselves who is the true animal here? Respect is a two way street. The right people consider their pet a family member. We need to open our eyes & our hearts & see a better way to give the right conditions for any living creature, always.

I support Dream Come True of the Lehigh Valley because for over 30 years they have fulfilled Dream wishes for children that are dealing with very serious, chronic or life threatening diagnosis. These children live in our greater Lehigh Valley area and are you neighbors and friends. These dreams enrich their lives and provide everlasting special memories. You can feel very confident donations can go towards one of the special dreams in progress. This is my favorite nonprofit and I love to support it.

My favorite nonprofit is The Cat Shack, based out of Trexlertown, PA. They are a no kill cat rescue. Not only do they rescue cats and ready them for adoption, they also have a trap-neuter-release program to curb feral cat colonies in the Lehigh Valley. Both the community and cats benefit from this!

I fully support Project Lifesaver because our history proves that we locate those who might wander due to Alzhiimer's,Dementia, Autism, Downes and other condition that could cause one to wnder, in under one half an hour-----what does that mean? That means bringing your loved ones home safe. and we are non profit as well. We also change batteries. not recharge!!!

I'm a proud member and supporter of The Junior League of the Lehigh Valley! They focus on education disparity in the Lehigh Valley and provide much needed volunteers to several local schools. They also empower and connect local women to one another.

I support Via of the Lehigh Valley because Via helps so many of our special community members to enjoy their life by helping them to gain life skills, obtain meaningful employment and develop social connections.
