Meet Our AmeriCorps VISTAs!
Meet Our AmeriCorps VISTAs!
Published: November 11, 2016
Author: Jennifer Nicolosi, VISTA Manager
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that builds permanent infrastructure in nonprofit organizations to help them more effectively bring individuals and communties out of poverty. The aim of the UWGLV VISTA project is to improve grade level reading rates in the Lehigh Valley through a collective impact approach involving school districts, youth serving organizations, city governments, the faith-based community, higher education institutions, students, families and other community partners. Please meet our 2016-2017 UW VISTAs!
Rabia Anwar
was born in Pakistan, and moved to Bronx, NY at the age of three. She moved to Allentown in the summer of 2007, and has been residing here ever since. She graduated with a B.S. in Genetics and Developmental Biology and a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Penn State Berks in May of 2016. She hopes to attend medical school in the fall of 2018, and manage her own clinic in an underserved community in the future. She is very thankful for being given the opportunity to serve as a
Positive Youth Development VISTA
at the UWGLV for the 2016-2017 program period. She is looking forward to using her position to strengthen upon Positive Youth Development programs in the Lehigh Valley area, so that the youth are more successful in their academics. She also hopes to grow as a person and gain useful skills during her year of service as a VISTA.

Coordinator VISTA
at Union Terrace Elementary in Allentown
. She

She graduated in 2015 and spent the last year serving with City Year Philadelphia in a 7th grade classroom. Audrey really believes in the work AmeriCorps does and is excited to serve another year. In Audrey’s spare time she likes reading, painting, watching movies, and theatre. She is excited to be back in the Lehigh Valley and to make a difference in some really awesome kids' lives.
Gabrielle Kennedy
is currently the

. She grew up in Old Bridge, New Jersey and recently graduated from Cedar Crest College in May of 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in both Public Health and Media Studies. She has always been extremely involved within her community back at home as well as the surrounding area of my college. Getting involved with the Lehigh Valley was the best investment Gabrielle has ever made and one of the main reasons she decided to stay in this area after she graduated, the opportunities are endless. She loves to talk and enjoys all the little things in life!
Kira Temple-Wood
recently moved to Bethlehem, PA from Colorado for
the
Americorps VISTA position at Northeast Middle School in Bethlehem
. Following her graduation from the University of Colorado with a degree in Art History, Kira took a job as a field staff at a wilderness therapy program. In her free time, Kira enjoys exploring Bethlehem, hiking, and reading.
