Bangor Area School District has 90 volunteers engaged in out-of-school time programs, tutoring and events, providing 850+ hours of service.

Leader In Me
Leader in Me is a student-based leadership program that focuses on “whole-school transformation” and student empowerment based on Franklin Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Community Clean-Up Day
During Community Clean-Up Day, students perform beautification projects at select work sites across the boroughs of Bangor, Roseto, Portland and Washington Township.
We offer in-house support groups to students to help them focus on problems related to self-esteem, social skills and other individual issues.
Intervention Period Programs
The Intervention Period Programs target underperforming students and provide them with support services related to reading, writing and math.
One Book One Community
One Book One Community is an annual school-wide event encouraging students and community members to read the same book at the same time. The goal of this event is to expand the students’ home libraries.
Youth Health Center
Through a partnership with St. Luke’s University Health Network, we connect students with medical, dental and vision care to promote healthy living and regular school attendance.
Through a partnership with St. Luke’s University Health Network, Vision Vouchers provides free vision exams and free glasses for qualifying students.
While Leader In Me is implemented school-wide to develop character and leadership in students, the Lighthouse Team provided additional leadership opportunities to a smaller group of students. The Lighthouse Team, composed of 30 students selected by their teachers, met biweekly to discuss prevalent issues, problem solve and plan events for the school year. They executed several projects, including the Souper Bowl of Caring, a canned food drive that benefited a local food bank.
