31 families from Allentown and Bethlehem Community Schools attended a holiday event at the Lehigh Valley International Airport on December 11, 2021. The event was a collaboration of the LVIA Airport and the LV Community School Network. Students participated in some festive holiday activities in the airport, which transformed into a winter wonderland for the day. Each student received a passport to the North Pole, which allowed them to meet and take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as stop by several holiday stations filled with gifts and activities, including Candy Land, Reindeer Landing and Stocking Stop. "It was great to see the LV community come together to support these families during this time of year," said Haley Rogers, LV Community School VISTA at United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. While getting their passports stamped and goodie bags filled with toys and books, students also had the option to meet and play with C.O.P.E (Canines Offering Passengers Encouragement) therapy dogs. Students from Muhlenberg College's Magical Memories organization dressed up as well-known characters to help make the experience even more special for the children. "It was a gift to watch the magic of the holiday brought to life for the children of our community on Saturday at the Lehigh Valley International Airport North Pole celebration. The COPE therapy dogs, characters, and of course Santa brought such joy to their faces. The amazing airport staff and volunteers did an amazing job with this event," said Lisa Fiore, Director of the Lehigh Valley Community School Network at United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
