Featured Keynote Speaker:
Nichola D. Gutgold
Nichola D. Gutgold is a professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State University, Lehigh Valley campus and the former associate dean of academic affairs of Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College.
Her research has been featured in The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, LA Times, NPR, PBS, Katie Couric’s Wake-Up Call, Politico, US News and World Report and numerous Lehigh Valley news outlets, including The Morning Call, WDIY, WFMZ and WLVT. Her research focuses on the rhetoric of women in male-dominated fields.
In addition to the seven books she’s written and co-authored she is currently writing a book on the six women who ran for president in 2020.
2020 Betsy Torrence Philanthropist of the Year:
Carrie Ward
Carrie Ward began her philanthropic journey at one of the region’s most philanthropic companies, PPL, where annual pledge increases eventually allowed her to join Women United. Quickly finding a home among the many wonderful and dedicated women who volunteer their time, treasure and talents through the group, she found her calling on the Membership Committee.
Her passion and enthusiasm for the mission of improving the lives of women and children has swayed many an unsuspecting co-worker and friend to join. Carrie will be honored with the Betsy Torrence Philanthropist of the Year award for her philanthropic leadership and ongoing commitment of time, talent and treasure to our community.
