United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley Welcomes New Members to Board of Directors

Allentown, PA
– United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley is proud to announce that Latoya Mitchell of the City of Allentown, Melanie Sanchez-Jones and Joe Savage of Victaulic have joined the organization’s Board of Directors.
“We are grateful that Ms. Mitchell, Ms. Sanchez-Jones and Mr. Savage will lend their leadership to United Way in fighting for the health, safety and education of every person in the Greater Lehigh Valley,” said Board Chair Joanne Raphael, former Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of PPL Corp.
United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley raises funds and invests in lasting solutions in the areas of education, healthy aging, food access and emergency services.
“We’re focused on building a community where every person belongs and every person thrives. We’re fortunate to benefit from the expertise that each of our new members brings to our Board of Directors,” remarked David Lewis, President, UWGLV.
Mitchell, Sanchez-Jones and Savage will serve three-year terms effective July 1, 2021.
Latoya Mitchell
has been a resident of Allentown for the past 35 years. She is an accomplished administrative assistant and served the last seven years as the assistant to the Chief Medical Information Officer and other executives at Lehigh Valley Health Network. Currently, Mitchell works for the City of Allentown, offering expertise in supporting the Mayor’s office by overseeing the community members’ concerns and helping them find the best resources and solutions. Mitchell also serves on the Allentown Arts Commission. She has an associate degree in human resource management and is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree in legal studies. Mitchell has volunteered within the community at Resurrected Life Children’s Academy, at back-to-school events, and the Allentown Rescue Mission. She a single mother of two young daughters.
Melanie Sanchez-Jones
is passionate about helping others, whether serving as a connector in our community or building relationships to advance diversity, equity and inclusion, or working with youth as they set and reach their goals. She is recently retired after 20+ years in leadership roles at Air Products, five years as a high-performing team consultant with The Professional Development Group, and the partner career support and regional diversity, equity and inclusion manager at LINC. Sanchez-Jones has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, a Master of Business Administration from Lehigh University and a Change Management certificate from Cornell University. Sanchez-Jones serves in various roles in the community that are focused on youth education and fitness, her church, and her alma mater’s Engineering Advisory Council. She enjoys spending time with her husband Steve and their two young adult children.
Joe Savage
serves as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President at Victaulic Company Inc. Savage joined Victaulic in August 2006 and was previously Vice President, Finance. Prior to joining Victaulic, Savage spent 13 years at United Technologies’ Carrier Corporation based in Syracuse, New York, and held numerous financial executive positions there including Vice President of Finance for its North American Commercial business unit. Savage is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the State of New York. Savage’s community activities include Chair of the Saucon Valley Foundation for Education Innovation and President of the Saucon Valley Lacrosse Club. He has been on the Board of Regents and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors of his alma mater, Le Moyne College, Syracuse, NY, and held a board seat with United Way of Central New York. He was also a trustee of the Toys for Tots Foundation in Central New York. Savage lives in Saucon Valley, Pennsylvania with his wife, Suzanne, and their four children.
