Women United Signature Project - New Bethany Ministries
Women United Signature Project - New Bethany Ministries
Published: July 23, 2020
Women United of the Greater Lehigh Valley is excited to partner with
New Bethany Ministries
as a new Signature Project for the 2020-2021 year. New Bethany was selected for its work in preventing and ending homelessness and assisting with client financial stability.
In New Bethany’s 35 years of service, they have impacted the lives of more than 100,000 people and have been instrumental in establishing a transitional housing program in the Lehigh Valley. In partnership with Women United, the Women & Children in Transition program will remain committed to increasing access to affordable housing and stopping homelessness for women and children. Women & Children in Transition is part of the organization's
Transitional Housing Program (THP)
.
New Bethany’s THP is one of the few family-based emergency shelters in the region. In 2019, 25 families participated in the program - 28 adults and 73 children. Families receive immediate transitional needs with the goal of finding permanent housing. Those enrolled in the program live in New Bethany’s transitional housing facility while working with a case manager on action steps to move towards stability and self-sufficiency.
Along with THP, New Bethany offers a variety of different services to help clients work to rebuild their lives. As COVID-19 continues to alter everyday life, New Bethany understands the importance of continuing these programs to help families in need.
Among these services are classes and activities supporting both parents and children. Monthly resume and employment search classes are offered to advance resident’s life skills and ensure sustained employment, along with weekly parenting support group classes provided by
Valley Youth House
. These services have been on hold since March but will continue when able. Weekly case management sessions with staff are held to aid and account for clients’ progress while in the program.
Youth STEAM activities and general childcare are offered during all parenting classes. These classes and activities at New Bethany are provided and funded through a grant with the
Banana Factory
supported by
Crayola
. The intention was to introduce visiting artists to the children, however, due to current circumstances, kids instead receive take-home art kits with video instruction. New Bethany Ministries presents a unique opportunity for its clients and their children alike, providing not only childcare but learning through building skills with a standard curriculum.
There is an opportunity for at least three community mentors to speak with New Bethany’s consumers to assist in encouraging success in either a personal or group setting. Non-profits and businesses in the Lehigh Valley are invited to become mentors - simply contact New Bethany Ministries to participate.
With your continued support, Women United joins together with New Bethany to address the unique challenges women-led families face every day in times of crisis.
