What is Edu Childcare?
The Edu Childcare Program provides an affordable, safe and accessible option for working families.

Several local school districts have decided to pursue fully virtual or hybrid scheduling. With parents and caregivers working, they will be in need of child care. If a family goes to Center A and that center doesn’t have a child care spot, the family will be referred to Center B. That’s how Edu Childcare works! Centers supporting centers during the child care crisis and COVID-19 pandemic.


How does it work?
The Edu Childcare Coalition will create a list of childcare centers who want to participate in this initiative. The list will include:

  1. Center Name
  2. Contact Info
  3. How many child care spots they have open for school-age children, ages 5 - 12. 
 
Edu Childcare Coalition members will be able to view this list. If a parent/caregiver calls you, and you have no spots available, view this list to refer the parent/caregiver to a center that can serve them. 

You're helping in two ways:
1. You're aiding the family by providing them information on where to look for child care, instead of simply saying "No, I don't have a spot available."
2. You're helping your colleagues in the child care field by referring them. This is very important! The National Association for the Education of Young Children reports that 52% of child care centers in the United States will close by December 2020. This coalition is created to support one another with information and references to rise up the Greater Lehigh Valley child care field. 
 
This list will be frequently updated as centers provide updates on how many child care spots they have open. 


How do I sign up?
Email Akshara Vivekananthan, Assistant Director, Education at United way of the Greater Lehigh Valley with the following three pieces of information:
  1. Center Name
  2. Contact Info
  3. How many child care spots you have open for school-age children, ages 5 - 12.
