United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) Awards and Campaign Total Announced
Annual Celebration of Caring Event Celebrates and Acknowledges Generosity of Lehigh Valley
Nearly 400 people attended United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley’s annual Celebration of Caring at DeSales University in Center Valley yesterday to celebrate and honor the generosity and support of Lehigh Valley corporations and individuals. WFMZ’s Eve Tannery and The PeakTV’s Ashley Russo co-hosted the event.
The 2014 Campaign total was also announced, surpassing last year’s number, for a total of $10,809,390. More dollars raised translates to more dollars to invest in supporting children, families and seniors in the Lehigh Valley through education, healthy aging, food access and emergency services.
This year’s fundraising effort was led by co-chairs, Mike and Kim Perry. Mike Perry, CEO and President of Crayola talked about their experience, “What’s amazing to me is that the needs are so great, but there are solutions in place due to United Way’s efforts. United Way really does work and it’s well-executed by a capable staff. If we can all give more, we can do more in the community.”
David Lewis, President, United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, commented on this year’s accomplishments, “We were grateful to be able to acknowledge some of the 400 companies and 23,000 individuals who contributed to the success of this year’s campaign. It’s evident there are many people in the Lehigh Valley who genuinely care for one another.”
UWGLV honored the following companies and individuals at Celebration of Caring:
PPL Corporation – Winner of LIVE UNITED Award
Presented to an organization whose engagement results in improving the quality of life for those in need through giving, advocating and volunteering. PPL’s commitment to the people of the Lehigh Valley is very deserving of United Way’s highest honor – total giving was over $2.5 million.
Pinebrook Family Answers – Winner of Air Products Leonard Pool Impact Award
Leonard Parker Pool was the founder and CEO of Air Products – and a true community role model. This award pays tribute to him by recognizing a non-profit organization that demonstrates commitment to community leadership and improving lives, characteristics exemplified by Leonard Parker Pool.
Victaulic – Winner of Campaign Chairman’s Award
Victaulic demonstrated leadership and innovation during this year’s campaign with strong support from leadership and a 22% increase in employee giving. This company ran a great campaign and received solid participation from every level of their organization.
IBEW Local #375 – Winner of Labor Achievement Award
Presented to an individual member or team from organized labor that moves people to action through volunteer service. IBEW Local #375 showed up in bowling alleys, refurbished homes, cleaned up our highways and created an apprentice program – on top of their day jobs.
Follett Corporation – Winner of The Morning Call Silver Bowl
Presented to campaign volunteers who demonstrate outstanding leadership and make every effort to help the campaign succeed. This company took the ice bucket challenge to a whole new level – using snippets from United Way’s program investments to encourage employees to get involved and give back.
Crayola – Winner of The Express-Times Community Building Award
Presented to an individual or organization that supports United Way in its community-building efforts by encouraging community cooperation and building and sustaining partnerships. With the support of Crayola, Easton launched its first (very colorful) United Way Community School and many Crayola employees served on UW Boards and committees.
Maura Benner – Winner of TeenWorks™ “Making a Difference” Award
Presented to local teens for the “TeenWorks Project of the Year” which fosters the relationship between unions and teens. This young leader organized a team of her peers to turn a church into a community center.
ASR Media Productions compiled a video honoring all of the evening’s award winners.

Media sponsors were PPL Corporation and ASR Media Productions.
