Why United Way?
Giving back has always been very important to me. Growing up, I watched my mom donate time and resources and that helped instill in me a passion for helping others. United Way helps the community in so many great ways, and I didn't see another organization where I could donate time and energy doing what I love.
What do you like most about being a Campaign Coordinator?
I enjoy watching the excitement my team brings to the campaign. Our Target team is extremely generous and exceeds my expectations in giving both their money and time to their community.
What would people never guess you do in your role as a Campaign Coordinator?
Surprisingly, getting "pied" in the face. We host many different fundraising events during our campaign and one of them allows our team to donate money to "pie" a leader in the face. It's all in fun and the team gets a kick out of it.
Any advice for your fellow Campaign Coordinators?
Prior to our campaign, we spend a lot of time planning events that the team will enjoy and participate in. Putting thought into planning and having a good pulse on our team has helped us to be successful. Most of our fundraising events revolve around food (walking tacos, donuts, pizza... all good stuff). Another piece of the campaign's success is genuinely connecting with all team members and explaining how they could donate to something they are passionate about.
Why did you join Emerging Leaders?
I was looking for a group in the Lehigh Valley where I could grow, both personally and professionally. I think Emerging Leaders has the best opportunities for me to do both. What pushed me to join this group over others was that it included not only networking events but also ways to volunteer my time and help others.
What do you find satisfying about being part of this group?
Since joining, I have made many great friends and I have met Lehigh Valley leaders who have helped me develop professionally. Joining the Emerging Leaders gave me access to events that I may not have been aware of prior, and also the opportunity to collaborate with leaders in my peer group in various ways.
What would you say to someone who is interested in getting involved with Emerging Leaders?
I would encourage them to come to an event! When I attended one of my first events, I was encouraged to see how inviting and helpful the current members were. They were happy to answer any questions I had and most importantly, they took the time to get to know me.
Tell us about one of Emerging Leaders' signature volunteer projects.
One recurring event that we started participating in this year is volunteering with The Hunger Initiative. Every third Tuesday of the month, they host a free meal to help those that are food insecure. I have had the opportunity to attend multiple times now and it has been very rewarding. I have met some amazing people who give back their time at each event and also have been able to connect with and form relationships with attendees. Everyone who attends and volunteers is very kind and thankful. It's an event I am proud to be a part of and a great example of how Emerging Leaders branches out into the community.
